Thomas J. Newton, Esq. focuses his practice on general civil litigation, family law, and representation of condominium and homeowners’ associations throughout Maryland. He believes in a practical, common-sense approach to representation and prides himself on proving cost-effective legal advice to accomplish his clients’ goals. He is admitted to practice law in Maryland and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
Mr. Newton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science that he received from Washington College—Chestertown, Maryland. In 2017, he graduated magna cum laude with his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in the top 10 percent of his graduating class.
In addition to completing his course work a semester early, Mr. Newton was a member of the Law Review and served two years on the Moot Court Team. He worked his way through law school in the evening by clerking during the day with a small Maryland law firm and with the Executive Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.
After receiving his law degree, Mr. Newton served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Lenore R. Gelfman (Ret.), Administrative Judge for the Circuit Court for Howard County. Thereafter, he worked for a regional insurance defense firm where he primarily represented lawyers, doctors, architects, and other professionals in defense of complex civil claims and ethical complaints. In his free time, Mr. Newton enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, working with his hands in and around their home, and rooting for the Washington Capitals.
